City subreddits are pretty trash as is, unmasking just how unbelievably cruel and evil some people are whenever the topic of homeless people crops up. But of all the active subreddits for my city, the main one, /r/Portland, is tame. (/r/askportland is SURPRISINGLY kind, with the occasional evil piece of shit passing through.)

I thought /r/PortlandOR was evil—it’s all but an explicit hate sub—but I found an even worse one. Behold, a pale horse: /r/PortlandCriddlers.

(“Criddle” is a slang term in the meth community around here—it means stealing, or more specifically, at least how I understand it, rifling through someone’s shit with the intention of stealing, i.e. ”Someone criddled my tent”.)

I would not be surprised if someone has posted photos of me or my friends, and I’m honestly afraid to look. It would not surprise me either, if whoever tried to pepper spray me a couple months ago is subscribed to this sub. The language used to refer to homeless people is dehumanizing and disgusting and it borders on incitement. But what’s really funny is I distinctly remember getting someone permabanned by reporting a post that used very similar language. I know Reddit is a cesspool and you don’t care but it takes like a minute to report a couple posts for “hate” or “threatening violence.” And it will do something to curb the growing trend of violence committed against homeless people. A drop in the bucket, but still. It will also be kinda funny to own these motherfuckers.

It never occurred to me how so many videos complaining about homeless people show cars and RVs on the side of the road. Surely the thought of “these people work enough to afford a car but everything is still too expensive to afford a proper home” must’ve entered their mind, right? It’s wild that people still have the image of a typical hobo with a stick and dotted bandana when they hear “homeless.”

Do they realize millions of people work a job, often times multiple jobs, pay taxes and everything, and still can’t afford a home? And this is fucking Portland, one of the most expensive cities lol. Do they think people are profiting off by faking homelessness or something?

Nah, these particular posters just straight up hate the poor. It's real mask off. To the point that Reddit actually might consider banning this sub if it gets enough reports for the right admin to see it

They really hate us. It’s fucked up, and scary, how you can kinda get away with advocating violence against homeless drug users, or at least call for the abrogation of our civil rights.

These fuckfaces are even calling for the end of bottle deposits, because we use it as a source of income. Joke’s on them when we have to resort to robbery and grand theft.

Ah okay. That makes sense. Usually the media where the hatred is tailored for mainstream consumption comprises of people putting a mask on about caring, just that the homeless have ‘gone too far’

Calvinism runs deep in America's veins. "If you're homeless, it's because you're a bad person. Your terrible situation is proof that you deserve to suffer."

God, I can’t fucking stand it when these fuckers Do the “I pay taxes” schtick. When I point out that they are no more a citizen than I am they either ignore me, pivot to something else, or stop posting for some reason.

I work with this soft spoken guy. Seems like a complete hippie, always smiling, likely high on some weed lol. He’s polite and also eccentric. Frequently talks about conspiracy theories with me because he knows I’m into them, but it’s just normie shit like the illuminati or eye of saturn or the NSA and whatever. He also uses a bunch of PC language about the homeless, calling them “houseless”

He also frequently shares photos of random homeless people around the city during his commute to our office chat lol. He doesn’t say anything outright insulting or disparaging, but you can tell he finds homeless people sleeping in random places amusing and says shit like “found another one”.

He also makes surface level critiques about capitalism and racism, but one day he told me he has no problems working for defense contractors, he’s just at our current job because it’s closer to his home lol

The language used to refer to homeless people is dehumanizing and disgusting and it borders on incitement.

If you look at newspapers and media reports in Victorian England, you’ll often see them outright calling poor and even typical working class people subhuman, degenratte poors, vermin, and so on. Their articles are formatted the same way as documentaries describing wild animals doing mindless, instinctual things, in a clinical “matter of fact” manner.

      A Modest Proposal
For preventing the children of poor people in Ireland, from being a burden on their parents or country, and for making them beneficial to the publick
      Author: Jonathan Swift

      ...

I am assured by our merchants, that a boy or a girl, before twelve years old, is no saleable commodity, and even when they come to this age, they will not yield above three pounds, or three pounds and half a crown at most, on the exchange; which cannot turn to account either to the parents or kingdom, the charge of nutriments and rags having been at least four times that value.

I shall now therefore humbly propose my own thoughts, which I hope will not be liable to the least objection.

I have been assured by a very knowing American of my acquaintance in London, that a young healthy child well nursed, is, at a year old, a most delicious nourishing and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled; and I make no doubt that it will equally serve in a fricasee, or a ragoust.

I do therefore humbly offer it to publick consideration, that of the hundred and twenty thousand children, already computed, twenty thousand may be reserved for breed, whereof only one fourth part to be males; which is more than we allow to sheep, black cattle, or swine, and my reason is, that these children are seldom the fruits of marriage, a circumstance not much regarded by our savages, therefore, one male will be sufficient to serve four females. That the remaining hundred thousand may, at a year old, be offered in sale to the persons of quality and fortune, through the kingdom, always advising the mother to let them suck plentifully in the last month, so as to render them plump, and fat for a good table. A child will make two dishes at an entertainment for friends, and when the family dines alone, the fore or hind quarter will make a reasonable dish, and seasoned with a little pepper or salt, will be very good boiled on the fourth day, especially in winter.

I have reckoned upon a medium, that a child just born will weigh 12 pounds, and in a solar year, if tolerably nursed, encreaseth to 28 pounds.

I grant this food will be somewhat dear, and therefore very proper for landlords, who, as they have already devoured most of the parents, seem to have the best title to the children.

Infant’s flesh will be in season throughout the year, but more plentiful in March, and a little before and after; for we are told by a grave author, an eminent French physician, that fish being a prolifick dyet, there are more children born in Roman Catholick countries about nine months after Lent, than at any other season; therefore, reckoning a year after Lent, the markets will be more glutted than usual, because the number of Popish infants, is at least three to one in this kingdom, and therefore it will have one other collateral advantage, by lessening the number of Papists among us.

      ...

People who treat the homeless like this are possibly the most evil motherfuckers on the planet. Is there a way to get Reddit to take them down? I hate to even fucking ask because we all know how shitty Reddit is.

Sure, the Reddit admins are pedophiles, but they’re not far-right—they’re just libs, which is almost the same thing, but whatever. As I mentioned in the OP, I once got a dude permabanned for bullshit like this.

Disgusting sub, it does seem pretty inactive though and mostly one chud's pet project.

Some of the posts are pretty funny in how ridiculous they are. Completely normal dude sleeping on a bus. Completely normal dude sitting on a bus with a bag of cans. These are the dangerous criminals that they're trying to convince us to be afraid of. Man I'd much rather sit next to that sleeping dude than set foot on the same block as any billionaire.

I hate people that harass and invade the privacy of homeless people. I confront them every chance I get. Luckily this is not very dangerous because they are all cowards.

    Despicable that Reddit supports this.

    Be westerner

Property values are one of the most important things in your society

Your society makes it IMPERATIVE that businesses can run with as little costs as humanly possible, even if this means people might need to start to work for free. You've even considered advocating making having a business a human right

Housing costs surge up, landlords work together to charge that much for all of them

Since your workforce works for pennies, they cannot afford this. No matter though, because the landlord is still richer because of increased property values

"Yo WTF, why are there all these homeless people!?"
