I have a friend whose parent is in the publishing industry, in which J.KKK. Rowling's bigotry was apparently an open secret years before she started to show her whole deal publicly.
Essentially, people inferred quite a bit based on the authors she would and wouldn't do blurb quotes for. Similar pattern for interviews, willingness to read review copies, etc etc.
From what they told me, the transphobia is the tip of iceberg (not to downplay the evil she is causing to trans people in the slightest). The woman is a deeply disturbed bigot, but holds (most) of these beliefs private, expressing them through 'the notes she doesn't play' as it were. The transphobia only became public (my conjecture) because she found them vulnerable enough to make those beliefs explicit.
All of this makes me deeply suspicious of her motivations for the occasional lib diversity pandering she engaged in. Black!Hermione, Gay!Dumbledore, etc, as smokescreen or even chud provocation.
