Real Cisco hours
TMK pod talked about this part here from a profile of their CEO that was pretty funny:
I asked Huang if he was taking any gambles today that resemble the one he took twenty years ago. He responded immediately with a single word: “Omniverse.” Inspired by the V.R.-architecture gambit, the Omniverse is Nvidia’s attempt to simulate the real world at an extraordinary level of fine-grained detail. Huang has described it as an “industrial metaverse.”
The specialist then showed me “Diane,” a hyper-realistic digital avatar that speaks five languages. A powerful generative A.I. had studied millions of videos of people to create a composite entity. It was the imperfections that were most affecting—Diane had blackheads on her nose and trace hairs on her upper lip. The only clue that Diane wasn’t truly human was an uncanny shimmer in the whites of her eyes. “We’re working on that,” the specialist said.
'so.. any big projects for the future?' 'yep.. a new metaverse and an AI assistant'.
So glad we burned down the amazon for my vr house that looks like ronald mcdonald's home and my digital girlfriend with freckles.

Probably a bit related, gpu acceleration of ‘AI’ workloads is being optimized away from because it’s not that efficient of a methodology.
This is really interesting, thank you for sharing!
Basing the entire economy on the stock market is so short sighted lmao
What started out as George Soros running a speculative attack on the Thai central bank, quickly devolved into the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997, and ended in Russia’s default by 1998
We need a "crimes of George Soros" megathread. I know I've seen his name in other nefarious contexts in my leftist historical reading, but it's hard to remember the details. I think one of them might have been Tiananmen?
Working for 60 years, finally retiring with your brittle bones and hoping your last years on earth are enjoyable, and suddenly your $300k retirement fund plummets to $20 right as you click on “sell shares”

and not continuing upwards, which means the capitalist class has maybe reached a temporary consensus about how much labor costs they'll really be able to save with this technology, or is collectively having second thoughts about the supposed ability of ai to make the line go up forever
I think they're still drinking the cool aid, but between the development of LLM specialist chips and the delay in GPT5 (because Open AI has got nothing) they're adopting a wait and see approach.
Once it's clear we're reaching the limitation of LLM scaling (and we absolutely are already there.) There will be a correction, either a crash entirely as the bubble collapses or, more likely because number must go up, a move back to the Generalist approach of Nvidia as hybrid and neo-neurosymbolic models take over the forefront of hype.
Me, winkling money out of thin air: fuck yeah
Me, when the money goes back into thin air: oh fuck I need a bailout
