Construct an interviewsona. Spend the whole interview process LARPing as some dude named Chris or Mark or Matt that loves blockchain and pounding Monsters and fantasizes about microdosing LSD and being in an elevator with Elon Musk. Your favorite thing in the world is programming and it's the only thing you do. Honestly go over the top with it, no one will notice. Then when you get hired you can go back to being surly and jaded while collecting a paycheck.
Recruiters are victims of capitalism just like we are. Their choreographed rituals of blowing smoke up your ass and then ghosting you as soon as they don't see you as a payoff is what the system drives them to do, because they are convinced that it has value. If you think one might pay off for you, then go ahead and bite, but don't waste any more time, effort, or empathy for them than is absolutely necessary, because there are a hundred more out there just like them, with the same leads.
What if in perusing their LinkedIn you find out they have a side-hustle as a landlord and house flipper?
At the end of the day, we all have to eat. Even though everyone here stands against capitalism, we also acknowledge the system forces you to participate. You can try to blunt your impact, but at the end of it all, you'll always be doing evil until the revolution comes or the day you die. Don't put the health and safety of your family below any ideals.
Got any tips for applying to city/county as a junior with an unrelated major? I look at the job listings and I see ton of Java and old tech stacks and frameworks that private doesn't use. I can't even get experience to get there if no one uses that stuff.
