Roast/cook some beans (literally any sort), season them, and put them in the freezer. It’s awesome, beat the heat with a bean treat!

Frozen roasted chestnuts. Learned that recently whilst walking down the street in Kaili China (凯里)。

Do you mash them to get a consistency similar to ice cream?

Nope, I just pop em in my mouth like cold and crunchy popcorn. That is a good idea though, I’ve never encountered bean ice cream before and it’s a good idea.

I've made red bean and similar Chinese style bean paste with sugar and non-nutritive sweetener. Traditionally it would be wrapped in glutinous rice or something. I've frozen it but I think to have as an ice cream it would need to be pulverized with an appliance like a pacojet or creami.

I’d never done it before, so I tossed in oil and used salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Since that’s a safe and tested combo. Very tasty, but next time five spice is on sale I’m definitely trying again with some of that instead.

Edit: oh and go light on the seasoning. I used little and because it’s frozen I think the at goes a long way. Something about being frozen made the bean taste shine.
