I kind of understand where you are coming from. Trek is a hope for a better future, but at the same time, it can be reactionary and a bit colonialist at times. I still love Star Trek, but it can definitely be problematic at times.
On the other hand, nuTrek (the Kurtzman shows) completely fails to understand why the series is so good. It shits on the concept of a positive future in general and spits on the dream of fully automated luxury gay space communism. If you want a good critique of the Federation, don't watch Picard, watch Deep Space Nine.
