C2s are significantly better than anything else I’ve rowed on, but if you can’t afford it then you can’t afford it. The one thing I would advise against is getting a water based resistance one, and go for air like the C2.

Being able to stand it upright when you’re not using it takes a long machine and makes its footprint tiny

And it’s the same price (maybe more depending on exchange rate) as a concept 2. If you prefer water to air, have the money for a c2 anyway, and don’t have any reservations about it leaking onto the wood, then it’s probably fine? Looks way funky to me personally, but I could see people preferring the bulkier wooden look to the slimmer metal and plastic of a c2.

Personally, I’d still for a c2 between the pair but nice to know there are options :)

I’ve used both at various hotels and gyms, but owned neither and I’m not a big rower so perhaps I’m not the best judge. In my opinion the water rower is nicer to look at by a mile. It almost looks like a nice piece of furniture. And the wood comes in different stains to match your decor. It’s also way quieter in use and feels a little more like rowing an actual boat. If I owned a fancy wood panelled home gym with big windows looking across my boating lake I’d have a water rower without a shadow of a doubt (alas, I own none of the above!) Though with that said I think the c2 is the gold standard for a reason. The water rower is a luxury item, and needs some maintenance. The c2 is nukeproof and works fantastically.

Also the c2 is in every gym and loads of people use them, which means you can compare notes against people and be taking about the same thing which is cool. Loads of pro athletes including rowing teams and clubs use the c2 - they can’t all be wrong!

i never tried it before but my knees hurt and i couldnt do my 20ks so i tried it out. I spent 45 minutes on it (prolly with bad technique) and wrecked my body for over 2 weeks. I went to the doctor and said i think something is wrong beyond the soreness from the machine but she said that was a ridiculous amount of time to spend on a rowing machine.
