Major donors didn't like that Pete had only been a mayor of a small town, many politicians also felt like it was an insult to all they worked for. During the fall off of both Kamala and Booker who were early establishment favorites, and especially when Biden looked like he was sundowning too much to win, Klobuchar and Bloomberg became their pick.
Pete, even if he polled better with black people, was never going to be the establishment choice by virtue of the fact that he's a nobody.
