very little hope. Either he's unserious and just sort of repeating whatever the algorithm is feeding him, he doesn't really believe what he's saying but for whatever reason it's appealing to him at this point in his life, or he'll be swallowed whole by the abyss and start asking people what their haplogroups are. Either way, there's very little you can do except just be there when/if reality hits him in the face and he starts to climb back out.
