I would like to wring their neck shake their hand
I've been playing Super Mario RPG in small chunks on my phone for over a year and my review is that one half of it is very charming and the other half is filled with the worst minigames and platforming ever devised
Knowing how fussy the higher ups at Nintendo, especially Miyamoyo, are with their IP, it probably was someone like ol' Shigeru insisting that platforming is part of Mario's identity.
I remember hearing somewhere that Super Mario 3 was initially supposed to be isometric which was scrapped because it frustrating to play
Nice that they managed to get to use the isometric platforming concept somewhere

This is like the definition of nightmare game for me
A lot of weird hidden chests, shit hidden things in that game period. Anyone else go juggle gambling? Also "hit 100 jumps in a row for a prize" fuck off.
edit: just activated PTSD from ff9 trying to jumprope as vivi in the beginning of the game. WHY PUT THIS IN HERE?
My favorite is the hidden chest in Mushroom Castle that is only reachable near the beginning of the game because you have to jump on toad as he's walking into the throne room. I'm not bitter.
Probably because there is an accessory later in the game that when equipped alerts whenever you enter a room with a hidden chest and the designers wanted to drive all of us mad every time we visited Mushroom Kingdom i'm totally not mad tho
Like Yasumi Matsuno, someone on the team probably thought Solstice on the NES was rad

With a controller or just the touch screen? Bc I can see it being ridiculously difficult without one.
I was playing Mario & Luigi on my phone without one and ended up giving up and just downloading it on my 3ds lol
