a lot of it has to do with how everything gets propagandized and run through a media spin cycle. a lot of people just arnt aware of it, they dont think about it, and theyre happier that way. a lot of people are aware, but shrug and say "well thats realpolitik!"
the audacity of it just has a numbing effect. you hear enough absolutely mind bending shit come out of politicians mouths that it starts to stop mattering how audacious it is. and even if you do take exception to it, what are you going to do about it? its a single party system playing sportsball between the reds and blues.
