A long, uncomplicated journey into the middle. An older man with even older ideas, unwinnable arguments over who she is allowed to be professionally, publicly, and ultimately even at home. A retreat from personal expression and social relevance into Hallmark movies, church clique gossip, and children that are raised to not respect her agency. An allowance for homemaking and personal expenses that dovetail until the distinction lacks any difference. An emotional affair with a church volunteer. A lonely marriage with plastic smiles for the neighbors. Wine. Half-remembered dreams.

A sinking canoe of faith floating on a lake of shame, sorrow and deep, unconscious despair.

She'll either realize she's a slave trying to pander to slaveowners or let herself be destroyed/used by those she reaches out to and if she comes to it will be too late. Perhaps there are alternative routes, but people like that, especially sexist wretches, generally won't change their views if it benefits them materially in some form, and if they do it will most likely be a superficial thing.
