“What we call “socialism” is an outgrowth of the most anti-socialist movement in modern history. Namely Bolshevism. As soon as Lenin and Trotsky took over, the first thing they did was destroy every socialist institution that had developed; Soviet workers councils, every democratic institution; they turned the population into what they called the “labor army”, acting at the rule of the maximal leader. That’s exactly the OPPOSITE of socialism. Socialism was really meant to be workers’ control over production. But (the Soviet revolution) was the biggest blow AGAINST socialism that had yet happened.” ~ Noam Chomsky
okay i know chomsky had bad takes, but dang i didn't know he went so hard on the "not real socialism" bit
if it's the same video that has been around for a long time, that ml college kid is actually a Spartacist, probably the most rabidly sectarian Trot group ever. So while Chomsky's shitlib take on the Russian Revolution was barf, it was also funny seeing the Spart getting it.
Chomsky thinks the collapse of the USSR and fall of the Berlin wall was the greatest victory for world socialism, this is almost as bad as Fukuyama's "End of History". oh and for the new leftists, Chomsky also thinks the US is greatest country ever.

IIRC he said they were "right-wing marxists" which still makes them far left by US standards
