    Not so fun fact - learned the N word as a white kid in first grade at a school with a lot of black kids. I don't even know how to say this without being offensive. I'll just say I picked up on the vernacular. A few weeks after school started I was in line at Sears with my mom. A black woman got in line behind us. I asked if she was a N word. My mom slapped the dog shit out of me, apologized to the woman, and took me home and explained to me what a piece of shit I was.

      I sort of learned it as early as first grade too. I was reading a map of Africa on the wall and pronounced "Niger" as you might expect a first grade trying to be edgy would say it. I knew it was a bad word but had literally no idea what it meant. Some adult passing by (a parent, not a teach) scolded me fiercely for it. This was in the south in the early 90s, so good on that guy for calling me on my bullshit.
