I always wonder what happened to the light and radiation of the star that made the black hole... is it just kinda hanging out there near the horizon just waiting to roast anything that gets close?

Apparently there's something called hawking radiation?

The light and heat can't escape the black hole because space/time is so warped by the extreme gravity that even at light speed no direction leads away from the hole. Which is, like, wtf does that even mean? But that's how understand it.

that's only past the event horizon..but some light and particles actually appear to be emitted at the event horizon if they get slingshotted just on the edge of it
