It's just endlessly incredible that people can look at shit like this

    Show

and be like no, it's totally normal, his videos are like, charity.

CMON, YOU GOTTA GO WITH YOUR GUT A LITTLE FUCKIN MORE THAN THAT

My favorite part about his videos is that every 5 minutes, the thumbnail seems to change. They SEO the shit out of the thumbnails, it is insane. I don't know if there is a way to see every thumbnail used on a YouTube video without actively pulling it every few minutes and saving a copy, but I know his thumbnails are constantly changing. This was one of the alternates on that video:

      Show

This is the current thumbnail for the followup video he made:

      Show

      They're all so unhinged.

Idk how people see this stuff and their skin doesn't want to crawl, let alone click on it

Because the people who watch them are like 9-year-olds. They have no concept of reality yet. According to him, his metrics are all fucked because 90% of the time kids are watching him on their parents' YouTube accounts.

Turbo lib science channel Veritasium did a video about changing images and titles to do SEO and they demonstrated pretty clearly that it works and that every YouTuber should definitely do it. So I'm not surprised that Mr. Beast does...most of the top YouTubers almost definitely do

Didn't he interview MrBeast on that video? I recall him showing rows of thumbnails with the same fake forced smile in every one and being like "we found that videos with this face performed better in the metrics"

At one point he tested open mouth soyface vs closed mouth uncomfortable smile and found that a toothy grin drew 0.5% more clicks, leading him to update the thumbnail of EVERY VIDEO to a toothy grin

YouTube makes it very easy to replace titles and thumbnails, there's even a tool that let's you test multiple different ones at the same time and pick what's doing the best.

I think Mr beast actually put out a tool that let's you see all the changed thumbnails/titles videos have had.

      Good fucking god lol horrific.

That thumbnail is a nightmare but honestly I would probably have like....half the reaction that I have seeing him around if it wasn't for that bizarre uncanny valley smile. Shit freaks me out

Yeah it's a tooth bare, not a smile, his eyes should be thinning but that would make the eye smaller and less noticeable which would be bad youtube SEO, so you get this fucking corpse smile

The intended audience is kids and teenagers which dont know any better. Clickbait is all they've known too, probably never saw the version of youtube or the web without

I've got the extension that replaces thumbnails with a frame from early in the video, and the other one that replaces clickbaity titles with crowdsourced ones that are more descriptive and neutral.

seeing YouTube in its natural state is genuinely jarring, I don't like it.

Yeah I get why kids would just not have the media literacy, I'm more annoyed that older, more intelligent people have suppressed the instinct they ALL had because they saw a few people online just saying it's legit and fine.
