Unhoused people who were living on the streets, but were being treated in medical facilities in the days leading up to their deaths may not have been captured

They talk about how ashamed and stigmatized they feel – they know the public thinks they’re bad because they’re outside. And they just feel incredibly alone in the world.

Wendell Stephens, an 81-year-old [..], said loneliness was one of the hardest parts [...]

I’ve got nobody to talk to. When your life is normal, you take for granted that you have friends and people, and then all of a sudden it’s all gone.

A common misconception about California’s homelessness crisis is that the majority of people on the streets are young adults who came from out-of-state, drawn to warm weather and homeless services.

    . . .

A groundbreaking University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), study last year found 90% of the unhoused population was living in California before they fell into homelessness

So naturally the mayor of San Francisco "has ordered city employees to offer homeless people a bus ticket out of town before presenting shelter or housing as an option."

Gavin Newsom was on the news this morning carrying some homeless persons possessions to the trash and complaining about cities that don't want to do their part to clean up this problem.

The absolute callousness is mind boggling.

This is happening all over. In my city a sizable chunk of the homeless are elderly, though most don't make it to 81 judging by people I've met (the winters are too harsh frankly). And they get treated like absolute human garbage when they do go into the hospital, bedpans left dirty, etc.

    Is the URL not working

common problem: you can't have an image post that also links directly to an article, the image URL uses the URL field

there's only one URL field per post, both on the page and in the database, not a separate "URL" and "Image URL"

        Show

if you paste a link in there, and then upload an image using the next box down, or by pasting, the link above is overwritten with the image URL.
