Supposedly Take Two forced Gearbox to rush the DLC under threat of funding cuts.
I don't think I can list all of the bugs (because the list is 3x longer than the patch notes), the game is essentially unplayable for most people- including Russians who got rug pulled on the day of release by having the entire game region locked without warning.
Regional pricing is also marking up the DLC as more expensive than the game itself. Regional pricing was very quickly fixed.
Now the game is getting review bombed and lots of people are just refunding &/or down patching since the game is broken even without buying the DLC.
Kinda bummed about this. Even the original coder for the game came out and admitted they butchered it.
pirated version still works fine lmao, paypigs getting what they deserve
RoR2 is one of my all-time favorite games, just a masterpiece of coding, art design and extremely addictive gameplay. It sucks ass how badly Gearbox butchered it, but yeah the general consensus is that suits rushed the development process and now one of the best roguelikes ever made is almost unplayable. Like ffs the final boss' AI glitches out and he becomes invincible so you can't even beat the base game currently. All signs so far point to them investigating the bugs and actually fixing shit eventually but that could take months based on what modders have discovered about the new code. Another causality of the slow painful decline of the mainstream gaming industry in capitalist hell
There are third party tools that let you do that, not officially supported though. So yeah you can revert the game to its previous fully functional state at least. Just a shame it doesn't work properly out of the box atm ya know? It's a hassle
Can game devs for fucking once stop selling their franchises to shitty corporate companies (yes I know it's inevitable under capitalism)? Ffs, this was one of my favorite games of all-time. I would have been happy if it wasn't touched. If there was one feature from Steam I would ever want, it would be the ability to revert back to old game versions (or install multiple) without developers needing to create multiple betas. I want my masterpiece back. Guess I need to pirate now. Hopefully I can still play multiplayer with a pirated dedicated server.
I only paid for the soundtrack on Bandcamp and was excited for the release. The only good out of this update is the soundtrack. Chris Christodoulou makes awesome music.
Hard agree on the soundtrack, imo the SotS music is probably Chris' best work on the franchise so far and he brought in a couple collaborators who elevate it further. I Should Build the Man a Statue is a highlight, esp once the the riff starts popping off around 2:16
SotV is probably my personal favorite, tied with the Risk of Rain Returns soundtrack. I would consider SotS and the RoR2 base soundtrack my next favorite.
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
man i was really looking forward to getting back into RoR2 :(
fuck the big publishers, i need more indie houses taking the lead and maybe one day we'll bleed them dry
That blows, I've spent a lot of time with RoR2 and had been looking at the expansion a couple weeks ago but figured I'd wait on it a bit.
Ugh, I've had some fun with the various RoR games. I was a bit interested in the 2D remake, but this does not bode well.
Fuck. Risk of Rain 2 is one of my favourite games. I hate how this is just standard in the industry now. Release a buggy broken patch alongside DLC and then fix it up afterwards. I really hate how they just use the players as the bug testers now, because it's cheaper than hiring people to do it.
A lot of the things are shockingly strange, like how a ton of things (including sounds???) were suddenly tied to FPS in the latest patch. I've played the DLC for a bit (obliterated with all 3 new characters to get the skins) and with FPS max set to 60, haven't had too many bugs (AI breaking and things falling through the floor, mainly). No immortal bosses, and definitely not the worse stuff like wiping all your save data if you plug in two controllers on Xbox.
Even without bugs, I'd say the DLC is a letdown. It's like it was made by someone who'd never played RoR2 before. Multiple items based on being hit, in a game where being hit usually means instant death in the later stages, and another based on being below 50%HP. Maybe it has some weirdo bonus with some of the lunars (Shaped Glass or Tranquility) but this is a fucking white item that's just diluting the pool. The new boss is bad, and the characters are all over the place. Seeker is pretty solidly fun but seems a bit OP with a self-resurrect and on-demand heals. Lost Son is... fine, but his melee sucks and the idea of "slow character with lots of HP" just isn't a thing you can do in RoR. Lastly the Chef is just awful. None of his kit synergizes and his passive heal (his main thing!) seems to be equivalent to maybe 2 Monster Tooths.
