said commute takes 20-60 minutes depending on traffic (determined by someone at CalTrans rolling dice to see how many lanes they'll block off so six guys can stand around watching one guy do stuff in a hole) and I am so fucking sick of signing papers for cars and filing papers and endless mountains of more titles and folders to process coming in and the phone ringing literally all fucking day as people call in with the dumbest shit imaginable (hi there this is a person at the call center and I'm not sure what to do so I called you guys instead of my supervisor for some reason, hi there do you have the title for the vehicle we purchased at auction yesterday that said "title absent possible duplicate title application required" on the announcements, what do you mean it isn't there yet, can you give me information about a car that has all of its information listed on your website)

ha ha just doing a funny bit doomer

A massive chunk of my work-related stress would fucking disappear if I could take a light rail to work and get there in ten minutes

I normally try to push back on the whole "your tax dollars at rest" thing with roadwork because generally they're waiting on o e person to finish what they're doing before they can do their job but then last week we went through a work zone with one person spraying a garden hose on the road with literally no other work being d9ne and SIX FUCKING PEOPLE leaning on the back of a work truck watching him.

Literally if you're doing this work at least have the common sense to not stand around with a half dozen other people watching one person work strictly to avoid that visual stereotype.

There's also the realization that DOTs spend 100x more on roadwork than expanding transit beyond personal cars

Yea but it would be the same crews building the mass transit and I'm sure all the people obsessed with cars would constantly make this complaint about rail crews too.

It seems to happen a lot is the thing, half the time I don't even see any fucking equipment just roadblocks

Yea there seriously needs to be some kind of rule they have to pick up the fucking signs when nobody's working there.

Nothing like going 35 in a 65 for 4 miles in a reduced one lane road on a Saturday without a high vis vest anywhere in fucking sight.

This bit is even funnier when your job involves driving a big heavy vehicle around all day and you're out of sick time

Think my record is 88 or so when I tore my meniscus riding my bike to work (since i had lost like 80 pounds doing that) which a doctor misdiagnosed as tendonitis before referring me to the shittiest sports doctor in the world

Two weeks later ditched him and got into a decent doctor who ordered me an MRI 45 minutes later at the imaging place near my house, got me a cortisol shot, bedrest/disability paperwork the next day, and referred me to a physical therapist

My knee will never recover and I gained all the weight back and more and I still feel stuck in an endless cycle of never making enough money to move out and live on my own and actually be a real goddamn adult deeper-sadness

Seriously fuck that. I once did a 20 hour day with about 40ish hours packed into Friday through Sunday going on Monday morning. We were all about ready to quit when management told us it wouldn't count towards one of our quotas. Luckily they backed down.

I cannot imagine going a full 72 hours. I'd stay up for days at a time in college. Except I wasn't always doing work (mostly it was insomnia caused by depression lol).
