If I'm off base here, please let me know, but I think they were making a distinction between taking over a hateful place with gay pride, and turning gay people into an object to humiliate people with. I haven't been following the thing on Reddit too closely so I can't say for sure if it ever began with the former though.
penndragon isnt making any distinction, they're just youre average ignorant person.
Listen, penndragon. Calling the proud boys gay is not an extension of "gay pride and all that shit". It's not those silly gays at it again, it's not a cute joke that gay people started. It's just a homophobic joke and it does not epically own the proud boys.
When you immediately assume it's just part of "gay pride and all that shit" you really make it seem like LGBT concerns are a nuisance to you or something.
"I love gay pride and all that shit but-"
??? What does gay pride have to do with this. It's a homophobic joke.
