Or is it just a conspiracy?

Haven't heard this before. Don't think it's true.

Also, many early prints of marxist texts/pamphlets are available on archive.org -- if you want a more "authentic" source

I think it's more just sloppy old translations and scribing if anything. Their translation of Capital is iirc an old one that's not used much for academic citations anymore for example. If you have something in print they have, it's possible you have a different edition or translation etc. that gives a different meaning to the text.

If you're just looking for Marx and Engels, the MEGA project has scans of everything they ever wrote, however it is in the original German/French/English depending on the document.

Okie, this is good to know. I get somewhat paranoid about this kind of stuff, don't want to be learning the wrong thing etc.

I don't remember the details, but apparently they would remove certain paragraphs from the texts??? Like, if it made communism sound too good or too successful?

Apparently they would essentially add "spin". But I don't have physical copies of theory, so I how would I know?

I noticed their copy of The Civil War in France is missing Engels' full introduction from my print copy. It just cuts off part way through online, but it might just be an oversight, I dunno.

I don’t know about editing individual works, but there’s a heavy Trot bias if you look at say, the “prominent Marxists” biographies - it’ll say something on the lines of murdered by the evil Stalinist degenerated workers state under anyone that got purged for example. And they hilariously bury Stalin’s writings tot he point that they’re like, annoying to find, lol.
