The Biden Administration on Monday awarded Intel Corp (INTC.O) up to $3 billion from the CHIPS and Science Act to develop a "Secure Enclave" for microelectronics, which are a critical component to a wide range of weapon systems and other national security products.

Shares of Intel were up 5.7% after the announcement.

And Intel will still lay off workers because free market!

So that means that money goes into underperforming doohickeys and salmon dinners for the management and investors!

Intel is middle manager hellhole as I understand it meow-floppy they have more people than tsmc and amd combined, at the same time they frequently kill their more exploratory moves (famously optane, but also some modem stuff and others), so it’s kinda like google without monopoly, just managers vibing, with workers not knowing the fuck they’ll be doing in a year

The best part is that the DoD has never bought enough chips to make it worth any company’s while to jump through all their hoops, so it’s a short term cash injection that will bleed them more later.

    SMIC stays winning
