Let me guess they are anti-tamil
yep they are
Though the JVP staged two violent insurrections against the Sri Lankan state that saw tens of thousands killed, it found no sympathy or solidarity for Eelam Tamils and instead remained staunchly opposed to Tamil demands for autonomy. The party went on to breed some of the island’s most fervent Sinhala racists.
Dissanayake was amongst the parliamentarians who fumed against a ceasefire with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
He repeatedly protested the agreement, leading JVP rallies such as the 2003 five-day, 116 kilometres foot march from Kandy to Colombo, demonstrating against the deal.
In 2006, Dissanayake was present as the JVP launched an organisation known as the “Joint Front to Protect the Nation" to defeat the LTTE and to work for the abrogation of the ceasefire.
The Sri Lankan military would go on to kill as many as 167,679 Tamil civilians in a campaign that has been dubbed a genocide. Food and medicine were embargoed, hospitals were repeatedly shelled, widespread sexual violence deployed and surrendering Tamils executed.
The events have been the subject of several UN reports and resolutions, including one that is currently being drafted at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva this month.
Dissanayake and the JVP have been firmly against such a move, with the JVP leader stating last month he "will not seek to punish anyone accused of rights violations and war crimes".
i don't know nearly enough to judge whether this is a left party attempting to play nice and avoid military action against themselves or actual national chauvinism and pro-genocide. i wouldn't tell the military i wanted to prosecute its generals before an election i was running in. guess we'll see soon enough if they proceed to shit all over the tamil or not
So, it's possible to consider the genocide of the Tamil as a war of decolonization
is this a joke
So, it's possible to consider the genocide of the Tamil as a war of decolonization.
justified means for a war of decolonization:
- self-defense against oppressors
- attacks against former and current oppressors
- attacks against collaborators
unjustified means for a war of decolonization:
- literal genocide
also to clarify, i understand that the Tamil genocide had origins in ideas of liberation from their oppressors. (similar situation with the Hutus before the Tutsi genocide too)
oh i'm referring to ppl that actively benefit from colonization. eg. settlers, colonial governors, other privileged members of a colonial system
I'm agreeing with you, you are attacking a person's position as an oppressor within the system which maybe up for some discussion (idk) but it's not a genocide.
oh yeah that was the point i was trying to make as a means of decolonisation
it looks like the Tamil nation invaded the island of Sri Lanka in the 1200s and established a colony after ransacking, pillaging, and eradicating the existing culture.
God willing I pray that the native Slavs and Germans also "decolonize" the Carpathian basin from the Hungarian hordes who invaded 1000 years ago!
Lol, lmao
You need to read more Lenin at the very least. I'm begging you.
