I've lived in that area long enough to know that the people there of sufficient economic and social status do buy into that shit enough to want to proselytize it to strangers in public.
I remember heading out to the SVB location right after the collapse because I happened to be right there, and there was a lady who said she was an accountant/CPA handing out “dance your sadness away” pamphlets to the suits walking in and out of the building and another guy who appeared to be college-aged trying to shill his startup to the same suits (they ignored him). It’s a really special place, in the worst way possible
Relatable, and familiar to me. Some have doubted me when I said so, but yes, it really is a special place where startup grifters (and their minions) will go forth and bother people on the street, in the coffee shop, the bookstore, the bank, the waiting room, the break lounge, and peddle some internet funny money or the like.
What a fine combination of computer toucher hype waves crashing together...
