George Jackson, born on this day in 1941, was the revolutionary author of "Soledad Brother: The Prison Letters of George Jackson" and co-founder of the Marxist-Leninist Black Guerilla Family.
In 1970, Jackson was charged, along with two other Soledad Brothers, with the murder of prison guard John Vincent Mills in the aftermath of a prison fight. The same year, he published "Soledad Brother: The Prison Letters of George Jackson", a combination of autobiography and manifesto addressed to a black American audience. The book became a bestseller and earned Jackson personal fame.
Jackson was killed during an attempted prison escape on August 21st, 1971. Quoting communist revolutionary Ho Chi Minh, Jackson freed twenty-six prisoners and took hostages at gunpoint. Jackson and five other men were killed.
Fay Stender, George Jackson's former lawyer, was shot and paralyzed for her alleged betrayal of Jackson by Black Guerilla Family member Edward Glenn Brooks. Brooks entered her home, tied up her family, and forced Stender to say "I, Fay Stender, admit I betrayed George Jackson and the prison movement when they needed me most" before shooting her several times. Left paralyzed and in chronic pain, Stender testified against Brooks and committed suicide a year later.

Mine was a reddit pipeline that went pretty well in the end. It went /r/lostgeneration -> /r/wayofthebern -> /r/latestagecapitalism -> chapo.chat.
Out of morbid curiosity, I just checked out /r/wayofthebern to see how bad it's gotten, and I was kinda-sorta pleasantly surprised. The sidebar starts with "What is WayOfTheBern? This is not a "Bernie sub," it's about the movement Bernie started but then abandoned.", and most of the posts on the first page wouldn't be out of place on our first page. There's barely any comments on the posts though. Could be a whole lot of shadowbanning, could be that the sub itself is just being quietly censored by reddit admins, I'm not sure. Either way I'm not signing up for reddit again, fuck that place in general.
yeah I feel y'all even outside reddit admins I find it troubling to be on the site for too long, glad you made it here when you did only other place I can think of that's pretty bearable is probably the deprogram subreddit
I do lurk on my home city's subreddit from time to time. It's surprisingly non-chud-ish and useful for learning about local events.
I do be lurking on my town subreddit too, basically not much going on but the alternative is having to sign up for facebook groups my town has and I refuse to. I do barely remember some instagram one but I don't know instagram either and can't find it again
