Climate change and environmental degredation is not an issue any country on earth takes nearly seriously enough. This is just the reality, the modern world is built on top of environmental damage.
All political movements are interested in short term returns for their people and generally view austerity as a risky proposal that can cost them their power. Environmentalism is not an inherent left/right issue, it's a debate over being pro economic growth or being against it in favor of a better environment.
It's just that in the US you have significant support for degrowth among the left, but I doubt that's universal. There's probably a meaningful number of pro fracking leftists.

I don't think (long-term) economic growth is at odds with environmental considerations - considering climate change is gonna fucking destroy the economy it's in the best interests of a planned socialized economy to invest in environmentalism. Short-term profits for the 1% is the biggest driver of climate change not the wider long term economy
