@sexywheat@hexbear.netFeeling much better. New doctor seems nice. Awkward departure from the old doctor. Waiting to hear back from the new one. Tested negative for Rocky Mountain Fever. The saga continues...
In parenting news: Kids did their first sleep over at the grand parents house! My folks bought them bunk beds. They had a great time, and we were able to spend 6 hours at a local renfair with friends and attend the after party for adult costume contest / dance party. It was great. Breakfast in the morning at a place we've been wanting to try. Kid 1 seems keen on getting bunk beds for her room, which gets us one step closer to moving the two in together.
All and all 10/10 weekend.
Kid has been learning how to code and design games and animations with Scratch. Absolutely loves it. She’s learning troubleshooting, programming, breaking and fixing things, it’s splendid.
However, we have also discovered that the online community for Scratch is exceedingly poorly moderated and apparently full of pedos.
Sooo yeah we had to walk that back a bit. But we got it downloaded locally and she’s still having a blast.
I briefly looked into Scratch for a bit of fun but something about their site looking so dated made me nope out of it.
If she is getting the fundementals down, maybe look into moving over to JavaScript or Python. But like still have fun with it. One thing I would have absolutely loved as a kid is access to programming but we didn't get our first computer until I was in high school and I didn't touch code until I was in my mid 20's.
Did a first trip to the movie theatre to see The Wild Robot. Pretty great movie (lots of tearing up on my end lol ), but when I asked the kiddo what her favorite part was she was like "I liked the popcorn"
Not much going on this week for us really. My oldest asked me to play Portal again recently so I ended up grabbing the Portal Revolution mod and we've been working through it. He isn't solving the puzzles faster than me like he was with Supraland for the most part but there has been a few times when he did lol. He's so damn smart. When I was taking him to school this morning that's all he talked about. I told him about a few other mods and some other first person puzzle games and now I think that is gonna be our thing for a while. Gonna download a few more for when we finish PR.
I showed my girlfriend the movie Life Is Beautiful on the weekend. I wanted her to see it because I've taken a lot of how in trying to be a parent from that movie.
I try to make a game out of basic things to keep them entertained and happy, like getting one of my sons to look out the window to keep an eye out for his mother at a cafe. It's better then just telling him to wait and having him get upset.
Even if we don't end up with another holocaust from encroaching fascism, there could be any number of natural disasters that make you need to get scrappy whilst dealing with kids and giving them a reason to go on.
the four year old is watching star wars videos set to shitty christian metal on youtube. What should I do?
Oh god sleeping has become worse than ever before, he screams and fights despite barely being able to stand straight. Starting kindergarden, teething and growth spurt all at once... Poor little dude...
