I kind of do want a karma count, but even more than that I don't want a karma count.
It would be nice to have some way (karma or otherwise) to tell the 'good' posters from the new users and lurkers, and to give you validation that you're a good poster. But any system that does that will also gamify it, inherently giving you some kind of score to increase or ladder to climb, which leads to a lot of reddit's problems.
Can you just see the total # of posts and comments a user had, and maybe the date the account was created? That would be a decent proxy I think without getting into lame-ass karma.

And on that day, the user with the highest karma gets banned.
