What a lot of environmentalists don’t understand is that in spite of all the horrible shit we are doing to earth, the planet is going to be FINE. It has withstood higher temperatures and worse catastrophes than humans could possibly inflict on it.
The real worry is that we are destroying the ecological systems and foundations upon which HUMAN civilization is built on.
If we fuck shit up, Earth will carry on just fine. It doesn’t care who lives or who dies, which species survives or goes extinct, it has suffered worse before and will suffer worse in the future with or without us.
The real worry is not that we are destroying earth, but destroying our own species.
We aren’t killing all life on this planet, that’s what I’m saying.
If humans go, then other species will take our place. There have been multiple (Five?) mass extinction events during earth’s history, and every single time new forms of life have replaced the previous.
If we go, probably smaller mammals would find their niche and get on just fine. The real tragedy is that we wouldn’t be there to pet the cats.
