As an adult I'm nonbinary. Growing up I was deliberately stripped of my "cis" gender expression against my consent as other people's deliberate form of dehumanization. Unless it was for formal pictures or swimsuits, I was only allowed to dress as a boy because I wasn't a "real" person to my family. Part of that meant extreme ways they'd gatekeep being a "real" girl from me, including additions to already daily beatings from the entire family. My sister and mother got to dress as feminely as they wanted. They'd do theatric performances of how "disgusted" they were if I ever dared to express myself feminely. This would prevent me from trying on their hand me downs. They barely let me speak without punishment, so I was also silent unless there was a houseguest they falsely wanted to look normal around. This means I wasn't even allowed to sound feminine.

Gender expression, including pronouns, is a part of someone's personhood. Leave me that fucking privilege, don't gatekeep it from me.
