I am literally the cissiest person in the planet, but I will try to make spaces safe for trans people, for no other reason than anti-trans people are the worst humans imaginable.

You got a half dozen listed acceptable pronouns and they still misgendered you? That’s impressive.

I know, saw that and was like, wtf. You have some of the most pronouns listed I have seen, and they somehow defaulted to he/him? That's ridiculous.

Ah, gotcha. Still, the ones defending the misgendering are fucked.

Still, that's good information to have, glad OP didn't seem to do it out of malice and owned up to it.

I mean, i get that people make mistakes, may not see pronoun tags etc., where it gets interesting is how people react when you mention to them they misgendered somebody and ask them to correct it. Like, you'll literally post "hey, this person's pronouns are (... / ...), your post misgenders that person, can you please edit this?" and they'll immediately go into berserk mode. It would take literal seconds to fix, but instead people like that will go and write post after post about how you're violating their freeze peach, and then on how rude it is to call them out on their transphobia, ad nauseam until they get the banhammer. And then they go to some instance where they aren't banned yet and whine about how fragile and mean hexbear users are.

Exactly, libs take one scratch and join the fash. It separates the well-intentioned from the people who were always internally transphobic.

And none of them seem to get that they got banned for doubling and trippling down on the misgendering instead of "for just accidentally making a tiny mistake".

That motherfucker wrote a whole ass book and segmented it with a "therefore" like it's some kind of master thesis on gender instead of just correcting theirself, didn't they?

"Calling attention to my unaddressed racism makes you the real racist"-ass gender politics.

Some people care way more about feeling like they're in the right than doing what's right.

"Calling attention to my unaddressed racism makes you the real racist"-ass gender politics.

Unironically how my Lemmy.ml account got banned from Playstation@Lemmy.zip, the mod made a post complaining about DEI in God of War so I called them out on it and they banned me for "racism." They ended up abandoning the community and said that I "proved them right."

Some people care way more about feeling like they're in the right than doing what's right.

100%, it's incredibly easy to not be transphobic.

The lengths people will go to in order to defend being a dickhead to marginalized groups rather than just simply not being a dickhead is astonishing sometimes

It’s absurd! A simple apology does a lot more than a chud-esque explanation and revision of events. If you have already offended people, explaining why you offended them is not going to fix it. Just apologize and sit the fuck down!

It's like a reverse marshmallow test, you can accept your mistake and apologize immediately, which feels bad for a second, or you can dig in your heels in an attempt to avoid that second and feel bad indefinitely instead.

Says everyone should default to gender neutral language online and uses that as a reason why it's okay to not use gender neutral language online.

    That's.... certainly a take

Jesus, appreciate these comments. I couldn't even parse the argument this clown is trying to make. I legit thought I might be having a stroke trying to follow the thought, because it's ~80% word salad. I weep for the people this person emails if they have an email job.

    • nothx [he/him]
      ·

The word salad is mostly due to them starting to realize they are wrong and don’t know how to make it right without being on the “losing end” of the discussion. A simple apology means they lost an argument on the internet, which your average redditor cannot accept.

Instead they will go into a lengthy nonsensical explanation that eventually ends in the victim of their transgression being wrong.

“Get everyone to use gender neutral language”, as though that isn’t a potentially much bigger reach than getting people to respect binary sex where it’s manually specified in fairly straightforward language

People shit themselves at a they/them…
