      The oil price is a relatively new problem and it's used to push the narrative that capitalist countries have conspired to destroy the economy of Venezuela.

      In truth Venezuela has been an impoverished dictatorship at least since the early 2000s.

      Look for news from 2005 and you'll see Chavez closing newspapers, expropriating businesses and land, imprisoning opposition members, etc.

      There was no starvation yet at the time but most of the current problems were already in place.

      surprisingly enough the sanctions have only been put in place recently, this economic problem have been brewing since quite a while and it hurted me seeing my beautiful country degrade little by little as corruption in goverment is so rampant
