Should I buy inventing reality?
I don't know but you should definitely wait until they pay the bonus then immediately quit for another job. Is praxis.
I'll get another one in three months though. They paid me 200 plus overtime for picking up a shift last week.
I gave it a go, and it feels really dated to a period when television and newspaper news rooms were a signficantly more important social institution, and while some of the case studies are interesting it's ultimately fairly repetitive and intended to demonstrate capitalist control of media to a skeptical audience. Maybe it's best role would be as a critical history of 'Newsroom' era news. Man I used that word a lot.
I'm looking for a book to help consolidate my arguments that the media ecosystem ultimately feeds you exactly what capital wants.
For all the flack he rightly receives, there are a lot of really excellent and accessible Noam Chomsky talks on Spotify that cover exactly this! I used to listen to them while I worked on a blueberry farm, so I don't remember the names, but what I remembered and internalized from the ones I listened to were really helpful in making a clear and compelling critique of capitalist news media. Sorry that that isn't a super specific lead to go on.
If you're like me and you wanted to read Inventing Reality but don't have the $50 for the secondhand copies on thriftbooks, here's a libgen link
