    Verb tense

    "My dog farted and it stank" already happened "My dog farted and it stinks" currently happening

    Stink is also a noun, like "Kamala Harris's campaign has that loser stink about it that gives echoes of 2016"

    Usage is a bit different in AAVE though so these are not hard and fast rules

    The most important difference is that neither of them are "stunk". This is best demonstrated in the classic piece of literature "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" (1966).

    Stink is what you smell when the garbage needs to be taken out. Stank is what you smell you exercise outside in the heat and get swamp ass.
