I, John Brown, am now quite certain that the crimes of this guilty land will never be purged away but with blood. I had, as I now think vainly, flattered myself that without very much bloodshed it might be done.

dude totally has the institutionalized mindset and has completely internalized the punitive nature of the carceral state. statistically he'll go back and he'll believe he belongs, doing hospital laundry for 10 cents an hour. the perfect citizen of empire america.

anyway, that other dumbass talking about getting bored at work with nothing to do. words i live by: if you are bored, it's because you are boring. i don't need to have a boss to fill my fucking time.

If I'm bored at work I make an elaborate staff meal using my work's supplies. Having an industrial kitchen to just kinda make random shit is pretty fun. Then I take lots of really long smoke breaks, blatantly do nothing and crack jokes. Me and the chef are easily the laziest people in the kitchen and where he runs service when I'm not around and he co-pilots weekends we're both kinda trying to send the message to slow the hell down. There seems to be this idea that you should be busy all the time and always going as fast as possible, our turnarounds are too fast and it just piles up in the window. It's something internalized cause it's not pressure from above and it's not out of necessity. I think it's just the only way some people know how to pass the time. That and an incredible resistance to being efficient and making more work than necessary

The other day the chef asked a dude if he wanted to grab a break and he was like 'a second one?!' I take 2 every shift even if it's 5 hours and have since I started. One before the rush and one after, it's fine and even encouraged cause it's just kinda better if people take a breather and get out the kitchen for a bit. I would be fucking awful at my job without that, that's 15 minutes where I can smoke a smoke (and a joint) and plan out my next 2 hours in peace, after I brought it up he made it mandatory to take breaks when the law says you're entitled to at least, which is 15 minutes paid every 3 hours and then to just take time for yourself whenever you can plz outside of that, eat a meal, shoot the shit a little cause if we have time to talk were on closer pages when shit hits the fan, we're on the pre holiday downswing and it's best to fucking enjoy it while it last cause you'll miss it when we're packed to the gills. I think it's partially cause the chef and I are the two their with over a decade in kitchens. Cooking is war and an old campaigner knows to get shut eye when the guns fall silent for a bit.

But if no spreadsheet for 8 hrs a day I just gotta watch the news for 8 hrs a day sooooon spreadsheet better.

Can these people think of nothing better to do? I have approximately 1 billion hobbies I'd rather be working on than working.

Ok sure in prison you may be limited so you can't do your hobbies but there is (or should be) other things you can do such as reading. Why are so many people so uncreative

Sounds pre-programmed to spit out Protestant work ethic talking points. Hate to see it

But it’s Reddit so can’t be too surprised
