It works for them to throw Trump under the bus and begin prepping their party to move into a new direction.
But will that work? Especially if Trump sticks around after being office and stirs up shit. There are so many Americans I've come across who support Trump first. They only support the GOP in that it's Trump's party.
Trump's whole rise to power came because (IMO) the GOP tried to tell their racist voters they would have to accept some sort of acquiescence to undocumented immigrants and migrants so the party could appear less racist, and they weren't having that at all.

This is not entirely true. Trump was seen as an outsider to the GOP's base. If you talk to Trump supporters from back in the day, they will tell you how much they hate the system. Many of them have real grievances with the system and have been screwed like us, and they see Trump as a desperate act to throw a grenade in the window of the establishment to fuck things up.
GOP voters hate their party. That's the biggest difference between them and liberals. Libs are idiots who vote blue no matter who and will always do mental gymnastics to justify the disappointment they get from the politicians they vote for. I know so many libs who are still coming up with excuses for Obama being a disappointment, along with the other ones who think Biden is going to magically move left. GOP voters are the opposite of this. They hate their party and only vote Republican to keep the gays in the closet, minorities out of their neighborhoods and to put the poor down. Republicans become RINOs the minute they're out the door or they try to work with Democrats.
They love Trump cause he says the quiet parts out loud and because he was seen as an outsider.
