My GF went to put a picture of my niece online and I was like 'okay cool' and then a little part of me was like "hmmmmmmm". So I took a second to think why I felt like this was not a good thing to do.

I care about this little human person, I want them to have the best life possible. Will putting a picture of them online, with me in it also, do anything towards that end?

There are obvious immediate risks to it, irrational they may be statistically speaking. But I have no idea what society will be like when they're old enough to make a choice for them selves in the interests of their own privacy. I would be taking that choice away from her. That could potentially be a very very bad thing for her.

Plus I literally have zero right to do this. Which made me think...neither does my sister really. And fuck, pretty much everyone else I know does this without a thought.

I don't touch social media so this sort of thing doesn't really come in to my thinking usually but damn.

What about posting pictures of you with your kids on tinder? What could go wrong....

I mean it's a good idea to be upfront if you have kids, so you don't have to spring that on someone down the line. Though they could do that without posting a photo, I suppose.

Yeah I’ve seen plenty of people with kids say they have kids in their profile or use pictures to show that w/o posting the child’s photo.
