Obviously I wanna play it but I feel like I can't abide CD Projekt Red's awful practices. Do I pirate it? Suck it up bc no ethical consumption under capitalism?

i use rutracker for most games
or cs.rin.ru for stuff that's not on there
if you have data caps fitgirl is good, make sure the url ends in .site though, there are fake sites out there
theres also gog-games, but i haven't used it yet

you will need a torrent client, like qbittorrent and i reccomend a vpn

I will add for the noobies, unlike video and music piracy you must be far more vigilant when acquiring software. Pirated games and software frequently contain malware. Only download from trusted sources, have an antivirus if you are on windows, only install and play games on an account that does not have administrator privileges.

Is Sandboxie "strong" enough of a sandbox to install a game into just to be safe?

I'm not familiar with sandboxie in particular but this does seem to be the use case it was built for. Assuming you get playable performance then it is probably a good practice.
