Obviously I wanna play it but I feel like I can't abide CD Projekt Red's awful practices. Do I pirate it? Suck it up bc no ethical consumption under capitalism?
how would u even pirate a new game? i wasnt online when pirate bay was a thing so full disclosure i have no idea how pirating shit works
i use rutracker for most games
or cs.rin.ru for stuff that's not on there
if you have data caps fitgirl is good, make sure the url ends in .site though, there are fake sites out there
theres also gog-games, but i haven't used it yetyou will need a torrent client, like qbittorrent and i reccomend a vpn
gog games is badass and has a long history across multiple sites of making the gog library available. can confirm theyre good.
everything else spot on. 🥧 :rat-salute:
is it a continuation of the old one that got ratfucked by that other group?
ye. the whole way it got taken out was tragic, but the new site is better than ever tbh. almost constant updates to titles
I will add for the noobies, unlike video and music piracy you must be far more vigilant when acquiring software. Pirated games and software frequently contain malware. Only download from trusted sources, have an antivirus if you are on windows, only install and play games on an account that does not have administrator privileges.
Is Sandboxie "strong" enough of a sandbox to install a game into just to be safe?
I'm not familiar with sandboxie in particular but this does seem to be the use case it was built for. Assuming you get playable performance then it is probably a good practice.
A good ressource on pirating:

Make sure you have a VPN
Do whatever you want man, buying a video game or not is really not that big of a deal
It's going to be a clumsy mess of gameplay with a scuffed Lib message. Pirate that shit.
Gameplay will probably be fun but I don't expect ANY of the "punk" element of the genre. Every single trailer is glorifying bourgeois property and wealth. It's going to glorify the setting instead of criticise it and the economic systems that lead to this kind of exaggerated dystopia.
It's basically going to be GTA77. Underdog works his way up to great riches and success within the confines of a cyber setting. I do not AT ALL expect criticism of the system or any political attempt to dismantle it and build something better through underground struggle/resistance as the "punk" aspect of the genre is supposed to suggest.
Yeah, even the Witcher 3 was able to talk about racial scapegoating, authoritarian politics, prejudice etc because it explicitly casts you as an outsider whose race is mostly feared or loathed.
But when you're just picking a character and a background before hopping into a big supposedly dystopian playground? I can absolutely see it as just being evil corporations are evil, gotta get what's mine since everything is awful anyway.
I hope I'm wrong obviously, but I doubt it.
I'm hopeful that Keanu - who seems fairly good-hearted - wouldn't sign on for a generic story that's just aiming to be GTA77, so there's that. We'll see?
If it does just turn out to be a "rise to the top" story I will be very disappointed. It should be more than that and it absolutely should be heavily criticising society without any fear of complaints about bias. Both-sides and neutrality are not topics of the cyberpunk setting.
My ultimate concern is that it's just going to be yet another game that makes a playground out of dystopia. "Let's make the dystopian hellworld fun". The dystopian hellworld should be absolutely horrifying at even the most face value and shallow of interpretations.
The set up for the main story is basically a sci fi fountain of youth which could be interesting, but it is definitely framed as some rags to riches story. If you play as a corpo you literally watch your bank account get emptied in the intro.
it is definitely framed as some rags to riches story
This is literally the only story liberals can write. Even Harry Potter is one.
If there's one thing I learned from Episode One it's to never trust a Pole
There is no ethical consumption under capitalism. Real talk: speaking as someone who worked in the industry for a decade you're going to have to give up AAA games, movies, and most entertainment entirely if gross labor practices or shady business is a dealbreaker for you.
Eitherway: if your own personally morals dictate you can't support the developers that is fine and you do you....but also don't make the mistake of believing that it equates to any sort of praxis. The idea that our personal choices within the market equate to some kind of agency for change is a liberal idea....and say what you will about how electoralism is useless but that camp has still gotten more accomplished then the overwhelming majority of boycott campaigns have.
I'm going to play it in about 5 years when I hopefully have a PC that can run it. Pirated of course.
Played it this year. I thoroughly enjoyed the game. The gameplay mechanics were a bit lacking but the story and visuals were amazing.
came out recently that they've had their team doing 16 hour days for the last year
they are doing crunch, sure its good in comparison but its still shitty. You should be pirating it regardless imo
Pirate if you want. The game will probably be quite good. The crunch is bad but it's likely the same in any other game studio. I think they have like 10% profit sharing with the workers
