  • I'm toying with the idea of giving up pursuing my career in software development and becoming a firefighter instead. I enjoy coding a lot but can't stand the industry as a whole. I've been job hunting for 5 months and can't even get a declined email from most places I've applied to. I'm in decent shape and with some more training I think I could pass the physical test. It would be nice to contribute to my community in a meaningful way instead of working on pointless tech industry bullshit.

  • Idk why private equity is allowed to exist. I worked for a small software company where my boss and I were the only developers. This company absolutely printed money, to the point where the previous owner was constantly going out and buying new Ferraris and Porsches. He sold out to a private equity firm, and within the year they announced they were outsourcing us. We trained an entire team of developers from an Indian firm who were to be our replacements. They're surely paying them just as much as they paid us two, except they lack the experience of the person that wrote the fucking application in the first place. I just received word today that some of their major clients are having crippling issues with our service.

Meanwhile I've applied to dozens if not hundreds of jobs and I'm still unemployed. I hate job hunting with a burning passion. marx-joker
