Between the paint, the fuel additive, and the general disregard for environmental conditions before the 80s, didn't all boomers get lead poisoned?
That would explain an entire generation of violent, paranoid people who regard intelligence as a negative.
I'm not saying it's the end all be all of why boomers are shit. But it certainly didn't help.
Checking out the symptoms of lead poisoning, I can't help but think that most of the population was affected by it to some degree.
They include:
Developmental delay
Learning difficulties
Irritability
Difficulties with memory or concentration
Mood disordersI mean, we can see how crime levels have been linked to lead levels. The correlation there is a thing: https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fnews.bbcimg.co.uk%2Fmedia%2Fimages%2F74298000%2Fgif%2F_74298891_lead_crime_gra624.gif&f=1&nofb=1

damn, can't believe i'm a boomer
shaped by the conditions of their generation
One of which is lead poisoning.
when scientists finally got to the bottom of the Marianas trench they found a plastic bag
I keep wondering what our generation's leaded gasoline is going to be. Micro plastic? Some weird chemical? Opioids in the water? Probably something we aren't aware of... Also how is it effecting us. Depression seems way up..Is that just that it is being actually recognized? Just that the world sucks more now?
Probably the cheap sugar that all processed foods are full off, in addition to other food additives.
Yeah but that's a bad thing we do but are completely aware of. Also that can range wildly from person to person
" Medieval texts warned of the danger of "apoplexy, epilepsy, and paralysis" from working with lead white." - Daniel V. Thompson, The Materials and Techniques of Medieval Painting,
As a species we've known for centuries that lead was dangerous. I don't think any one element is the cause of our modern sickness, I think it's a constant exposure to what are deemed 'safe levels' of certain chemicals, on top of radio waves, radiation, constant noise and light, unclean air... the inescapable conditions of our artificial environments.
spooky chemicals making everyone sick in the head, fuckin radio waves and uh.. noise
definitely not just capitalism
It think the depression thing is mostly it being recognized and people being less ashamed of talking about it. My boomer parents for sure go through bouts of depression but just refuse to talk about it (like its the one topic that will actually get them really mad if their kids bring it up).
Yeah you're right. My hot take tho is that the reason we're more willing to talk about it is that capitalism found a way to monetize it, which is therapy.
we're all like 5% dumber than we'd be otherwise due to modern concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere
