Say tomorrow socialism wins in the US. We get the whole thing. Adequate healthcare, no more christian babies, Obama is king, all of it.

What percentage of the population will immediately become Marxists because their material conditions improve, assuming there isn't some sort of conflict which degrades material conditions like Mao had in the revolution after the world war after the occupation after the entire modern history of China? What percentage of the population will be willing to completely unlearn most of their cultural education and work through the baggage that needs to be sorted before they're in any way socialists? What percentage of the population will give up high commodity fetishism and high Spectacle for a life of communal interdependence and social ecology? What percentage of landlords and corporate suits and pigs do you think will voluntarily reform themselves out of the structures that give them power and comfort? If a population is currently on the brink of conflict because they'd rather die of plague than let the government tell them to wear a mask, is that process of societal transformation going to be purely voluntary or coerced or so multi-generational that the revolution is open to rightism like Deng and Khrushchev?

The cultural revolution wasn't pretty and it was a failed experiment, but it was an experiment that needs to happen. There might be widespread agreement behind economic policies or social policies but without that philosophical shift from their idealistic baggage to dialectical materialism and without the social shift from individualism to collectivism, all you're creating is a dogmatic population and dogmatism is destructive. You need something to snap people out of that and I challenge any anarchist toting social revolution to go recruit a drunken libertarian uncle at Thanksgiving or a Qanon lunatic or a middle class lawyer. A deliberate state effort to reform capitalism's tendrils out of people seems like a basic prerequisite to socialism to me. There is a narrow window to recreate society and that requires giving people the knowledge and tools to do so.
