Particularly since without Merry, the Witch King would just keep respawning until the Ring is destroyed. Which makes their meme unintentionally line up so well with history and liberals' misperception of it that it becomes a bit of a self-goal.

(For those who don't know, in the book Merry's sword is enchanted/special in some way that breaks the spells which allows WK to actually die die)
