"Jesus is born to an unwed teenage of color. She, the child, and her husband cross borders without documentation. The child grows up to be a homeless teacher who leads a radical movement of people that refuses the boundaries of creed or class or role in society. And he travels around the world, giving a sort of "free healthcare" to anyone who asks, and feeding the poor without judgement." - Reverend White

    Merry chistmas :)

I had a question though, I am not christian and as such I see christmas essentially as an excuse for excess consumption. I'm curious as to how christian communists might want christmas to change after revolution. What would you want to see?

Big fucking sit down party in the town square with free food, singing, everything. Hard to think of something more Culturally Socialist.

There's so much, but I think for Christians a much stronger emphasis on the material actions the Christmas story implies. In Advent a recognition of God entering history to progress a contradiction that we could not, and a reflection on how we might commit to recognising and progressing the issues in our own society.

Societally, I'd like more communal and ecumenical celebrations. Most people of the world celebrate the Solstice and I'd like to see those traditions openly celebrated rather than elided like in current secularism.

For people of the book or other religions that accept some kind of Abrahamaic validity or syncretism I'd love to see how their traditions mix with ours. I have fond memories of a Christmas party with some Palestinian friends, Muslim and Eastern Catholic, singing carols about Mary together.

Free toys for all children. Bring back Toys R US, and let the kids pick out what they want from the store. Totally free.

I'm not necessarily Christian but I've been thinking about this! Heavy estrictions on the use of holiday imagery by businesses, limiting them to a much shorter holiday season. Give extra days off to people during that shorter season to make it clear that this isn't an anti Christmas measure but a Christmas stewardship measure. No real restrictions on when people decorate at home, but specific holidays for lighting and takedown could encourage people to follow suit. Similar time restrictions on holiday-related marketing should be in place for other holidays, and whichever agency enforces these measures should also be responsible for patronage of holiday events year round, including Christian, non-Christian, and secular holidays.

Not a practicing or believing Christian but more of a cultural one. I would like to keep the decorations, the food, the days off and the spending time with loved ones. I would love to get rid of the commercialism and turn gift-giving into something centered much more on giving something thoughtful or heartfelt than on spending a lot of money.

I would also love to have more days off leading up to Christmas so you actually had time to enjoy the season with your loved ones.

Another thing I would like would be for public celebrations and decorations to happen for other holidays than Christmas. We should celebrate eachother's traditions much more than we do today.

Christmas is about celebrating the commemorating the birth of Christ. Gift-giving is related to the holiday of St. Nicholas (6th December). Santa Claus is a pagan accretion.

Dear little tiny baby Jesus all I want for Christmas is a sweet dirt bike so if you could put in the good word with Santa you'd really be doing me a solid.
