They are good, but not sufficient, and often do harm by taking the wind out the sails of further action or by creating a neoliberal "personal responsibility" viewpoint that accepts the neoliberal framing of environmental and ethical issues.
Like, it's not my fault that animal husbandry or meat factories exist so I don't need that guilt. Instead empower me to work towards solutions that can show real change, and likely veganism will be a logical byproduct.
