Spent all morning downloading loads of mods from a modlist only to go back to vanilla cos the mods confused me. So far all I have is

  • Bestiary
  • Drafty secret doors
  • Alternate dungeon exit texture

Made myself a redguard warrior and managed to kill the first rat just fine

    Normal Daggerfall or Daggerfall Unity?

        revisionist!

jk jk, did you ever play the original such that you could provide insight? My long out of touch oldschool TES playing friend swore up down and sideways that the unity port was, well, there's no polite way to paraphrase almost any she ever said so I won't even try. I'm sure the engine's come leaps and bounds since then though.

I had a feeling it was unity just something about the walls even tho the textures don't look overcooked or anything.

Having played the original Daggerfall both in DOS and DOSBox, I can confidently say that DFU is the best way to experience Daggerfall. The Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages' Daggerfall files section has a comprehensive installer for Daggerfall with DOSBox and bugfixes, and I would encourage anyone to try it out for a little while, but a full playthrough of Daggerfall should absolutely be done in DFU.

Never played the original i just heard that the original had broken dungeon generation and that the unity version has lots of bugfixes. So far playing it largely vanilla with some minor tweaks i have no interest in the horrific upscaled textures everyone seems to use

Patrician's choice. I think maybe screenshots and whatnot of the upscaled / retextured stuff is what initially turned me off of checking it out. I suspect the project was still far from complete when the earlier mentioned homie was spitting their venom.

I've rarely experienced it with newer games outside of that week I tried Sea of Thieves and started getting nauseous after 30 minutes of sitting in a boat but some first person shooters/rpgs were absolutely awful for that.

Every time I replay DF, I'm blown away by just how much ambition it had. The very definition of "limited by the tech of the time" and is, to this day, the boldest approach to storytelling I've seen in a TES game (Morrowind's main quest was fantastic but more linear and conventional). Here's to hoping The Wayward Realms (same talent) is good when it comes out.

    That said...
