Because they've made culture into their main thing. On the other hand, conservatives have focused everything on courts and pushing for policies that they want.
So while libs go nuts over Girl Boss Kamala on the cover of Vanity Fair, conservatives have their eyes on the prize with a third supreme court justice from Trump's presidency.
I don’t think it’s a fumbling “hello fellow kids” as it might appear,
I think you misunderstood me in my comment, comrade. I'm not saying they are trying to reach out to the youth with how focused they are on culture. Not at all. If anything, their attempts to be 'cool' is just pandering and it's cringe-worthy (like the 'Notorious RBG' shit).
I was more so trying to say the difference between them and conservatives is that the right wing actually understands power and is getting what they want while libs waste their time with culture. In the end, libs sit there and defend the status quo and believe in the system, completely ignoring that conservatives are the ones twisting things to their benefit.
I think that it is fundamental to neoliberal ideology. To monetize EVERYTHING, even culture, to serve capitalism. No sides, no tribes, nothing is sacred. To monetize is to have marketer control of the otherwise organic public narrative on all levels.
100% agree. They take everything and basically ruin it. Any 'cool' thing in terms of culture, they ruin it and make it all about money.
A good example is how far they have pushed nerd culture. We're bombarded with endless superhero/comic book movies and TV shows and other shit based around what used to be exclusively a "nerd" thing. It became hip and trendy to act "nerdy" a few years ago. Marvel movies just reinforce the status quo (and completely ignore the anti-establishment side of some of those comics like the Nomad arc of Captain America that was great). Libs take everything that is 'cool' and fucking degrade it and then monetize it.
