I think it's that they realize on some level that if you're going to develop a parasocial relationship with the high-tech equivalent of one of those fuzzy toy mice for cats with a bell in it then it's a catastrophically bad idea to do that with some live service app run by a startup that'll be gone in a year, but they can't articulate that without a bunch of toxic masculine posturing and raving misogyny because they're reactionary dipshits who can only communicate with toxic posturing and random inclusions of explicit bigotry to virtue signal to other reactionary dipshits.
That is absolutely what is happening. They will take some basic feminist theory and repackage it in the most misogynistic way possible. Its like how early fascists would pervert socialist critiques into their racist theories. Socialist isn't an ascendant force in western society like feminism is.
