hiya folks, sorry for the delayed post. What have YOU been reading?
I try to do a book thread for every week, I just had a very hectic schedule; do you want to take over?
Finishing "The End of Policing", by Alex S. Vitale today, then moving onto collections from Mao.
It’s good. A bit slower at the start than the first 2. I really enjoyed Messiah a lot.
I think I’m only going to read the Frank Herbert books though. I may get one of the prequels on the Butlerian Jihad but I’m not sure.
Antkind by Charlie Kaufman which is hilarious and beautiful, I'm so glad he made a come back this year.
hey if you like Charles Mann, you should read "The Wizard and the Prophet"
Capital Vol 1, What must be Done by Lenin, and looking to see if I can read the Manifsto in Japanese once the book comes in.
check out our perusall book club site, for several hundred annotations on Capital Vol 1.; we also read State and Revolution, if you wanna read that too.
Got through State And Revolution. That was the third piece I read after Socialism: Scientific and Utopian and the Manifesto in English. I do have a Japanese copy of State and Revolution coming in that I’m going to use for study.
What is the link to that perusall book club site? I’m about 300 pages into Capital. I’d love some annotations! :)
The Three Body Problem - I'm really curious if the disdain for the CCP is there in the original version.
I read that as well, that would be interesting to find out.
There's a lot in there about the bad parts of the Cultural Revolution but not much on Communism/Maoism as a philosophy.
It was kinda interesting but I didn't really enjoy it
Im reading chapo dot chat, cause I cant motivate myself to get back to books after an entire day of brain work :(
