Chinese state media Xinhua published an editorial slamming the portrayal of men in Chinese media, claiming the popularity of the "sickly aesthetics" in effeminate celebrities was having an adverse impact on teenagers.

Xinhua said that "sissy pants" or "little fresh meats" — who they describe as effeminate young men who use makeup, are slender and wear androgynous clothing — were hurting China's national image.

The CCP has a long way to go on LGBT issues. The article makes it sound like there's more of a cultural shift going on under the surface though, so maybe progress will be sudden like it was in the US (probably faster, considering things happen pretty quick over there)

The article was written in 2018. I don't know shit about LGBT in China but at least according Naomi Wu, things are starting to get better recently. For example, earlier this year, a trans woman won a discrimination lawsuit against her employer: https://supchina.com/2020/07/06/chinese-trans-woman-wins-sex-discrimination-lawsuit-against-employer-in-landmark-victory/

Ultimately they’re still a developing country. I will place them on an equal and fair comparative footing when they truly enter true parity with the west.

Yeah true, as they approach parity, it's more important for us to hold them accountable as leftists, though we absolutely must do so in a way that does not empower western imperial interests, of course.

Yeah it's definitely a dividing issue within the party between young people and old people, it seems to be getting better in recent years with some court decisions coming down in lgbtq people's favor.

there was a recent major ruling for a transwoman that was being discriminated at the Job. She won. China is not there yet, but to say they have a "long way to go" like i mean even america has a long way to go.
